Any fisherman coming to Alaska would be hard pressed not to want to cast in a line. On Discovery’s cruises you have that chance without having to spend a week at a fishing lodge. We even provide the bait and salt water fishing gear.

During the spring and summer months Alaska’s rivers team with spawning Salmon so thick you could walk across their backs.

King, Coho, Pink, Sockeye and Chum salmon return to their home streams in cycles throughout the season. All year the mighty Halibut is there for the harvest.
We do our best to make sure that our passengers have the chance of catching these fish. What we don’t need we ask our guests to release. We generally fish in deeper waters as we cruise and guests can drop in a line for Halibut when the boat is anchored.
For those who do not want to fish it is an opportunity to enjoy an hour or so of quiet time …… although it’s difficult not to get caught up in the excitement on deck when someone yells “fish on”.
We also drop our shrimp and crab pots in secret places along the way and enjoy fresh seafood prepared by Discovery’s creative Chef from the days catch. >>> See a Sample Menu

MV Discovery has an Alaska fishing advantage over their rivals – Skipper Ben Swanson fished with his Dad, Captain John Swanson, who owned a commercial Salmon troller before the family began running wildlife cruises in 1981. Both John and Ben have enjoyed fishing since childhood and know how and where to catch fish in Alaskan waters.
